First Work Week in the Rear View Mirror

Rachel made it through her first week back at work.  Sunday evening was pretty tough.  After pulling the trigger, it wasn't too bad.  LuAnn was here to take care of Kennedy when we were at work.  On Tuesday, Dennis made it into town to help out.  With the weather getting better, he was able to get in several rounds of golf during his stay.  They also prepared dinner for us on Thursday evening.  For this Kimes, a trip to DFW just isn't complete without a trip to the mall.  On Friday, we made a trip to the Grapevine Mills outlet mall and Kennedy came away the big winner.  She got several outfits for the upcoming fall season.

On Saturday, Jason made a trip to Northshore Trail at Lake Grapevine to ride his bike.  The temperature was in the 60's, so that felt great.

On Sunday, we went for a run with Matt and Courtney.  We also ran into some of our neighbors at the grocery store.  We had seen them around the block, but hadn't ever gotten around to meeting them.  They had a son two months before Kennedy was born.  We had also talked about getting the strollers out and going for a walk around the block.

On Sunday evening, Puma made it into town to help take care of Kennedy for the next week.

Mom's Last Week Home

Hey there.  Sorry we didn't get the blog updated on Sunday.  We were pretty busy and didn't get an opportunity to update it.

This week was Rachel's last week at home with Kennedy.  They made a visit by the doctor's office for her 8 week checkup.  He thought she is developing well.  He did ask us to keep an eye out on her neck development.  She tends to favor her right side and she could potentially get a flat head.  He said not to worry, but just something to keep an eye on.

On Saturday, we made it by Matt and Courtney's house for Addison's first birthday party.  She had quite a crowd there to celebrate with her.  Unfortunately, Addison didn't feel very well.  She was sick and had some antibiotic shots that brought her down.

On Saturday afternoon, we cheered on the Red Raider football team to another victory.  The game was in Albuquerque and a storm rolled through, which ended up causing two rain delays.

On Sunday, we got our 5 mile run in before heading over to Jason's boss' house to watch the Dallas cowboys play.  We all had a good time.  Shortly thereafter, we headed over to the airport to pick up LuAnn.  She was coming to town to help us watch Kennedy for when Rachel heads back to work.  It was a little somber at our house on Sunday evening.

Back to Running

Howdy Folks,

Checking in for another week.  Last Monday, like most of you, Jason had off for labor day.  It sure was nice having an extra long weekend.  We finally had a cold front roll through and the 100-degree days are behind us.  We've been riding an exceptional heat wave and it's virtually confined us to the house. We don't want to participate in any outdoor activity with Kennedy when it's 100 plus degrees out.  Since we were back to the high 80's, we elected to go for a little stroll with the jogging stroller.  We weren't able to run yet, but it sure felt good to get outside for a bit.

On Wednesday, Rachel went to see Dr. Walters.  She got a good report card as she's now officially cleared to go back to work and start running.  That evening, we got the jogging stroller out and ran to the grocery store and back.  It was pretty clear that we hadn't been out there in a while.  Funny how it just makes you feel better to get out and sweat a little.

On Saturday, we had a good lazy day.  We made a run by Hobby Lobby to pick up some frames.  Mallory's photos of Kennedy had arrived in the mail earlier in the week.  She's grown and developed quite a bit since then.  She's starting to smile more and she continues to gain better control of her head.  She's also becoming more aware of her environment.  Her sleeping also continues to go for longer and longer stretches.  She went 8 plus hours twice this week.  Such a precious little lady!

On Sunday, we went for a run over at Lake Grapevine.  We've signed up for the White Rock Half-Marathon in December so it's time to start training again.  We had a pretty good time on our 4 mile run.  We've also taken on a new strategy with our running... just go slow, get the miles in and have a good time.  The temperature was in the 70's, but it was sunny out so we had to keep her covered with a blanket most of the time.

Sunday was also the first Cowboys game of the season.  We decided to sport our Cowboys gear to celebrate the return of football.  Just another symbol that fall is creeping up on us and that we'll soon be enjoying the cool, crisp air.

Our little lady is 7 weeks old now.  We got out the blocks and snapped a few photos.  We just love our little   sweetie!

We've had a pretty good week.  Kennedy continues to get better and better at holding her head up.  She'll hold it straight up for a couple of seconds before it just gets too heavy for her.  One night this week Kennedy even made it a full seven hours without waking up.  Rachel was pretty excited.  Although, on Friday and Saturday night, Kennedy couldn't seem to get settled and was stirring for the most of the night.  We have also discovered the beauty of white noise.  Sometimes when she's fussin, but she recently fed and has a clean diaper, she's just tired and get herself worked up.  We can run the blow dryer and it'll calm her down enough that she'll go to sleep.  The vacuum cleaner also does the trick.  One time we even started to hum and she calmed herself down.

On Saturday morning, we all went to a 5k in Coppell.  It was organized by one of Rachel's friends, who also happens to be the office manager at Kennedy's pediatrician.  We didn't run in the event, but we were ready to spent a little time away from the house.  Rachel will see the doctor on Wednesday and should be cleared to start doing some running again.  Rachel has signed us up for the White Rock Half-Marathon in December.  We figure that we're committed now and it will be harder to justify not getting out there when we've already paid our registration fee.

On Saturday evening, we celebrated the start of college football season by watching the Red Raiders.  It wasn't on TV, but we were able to stream the video coverage online.  We also hooked up the computer to the TV. It was almost better than watching it on TV because it had the audio feed from the Tech radio broadcast.  Kennedy helped to cheer the Red Raiders on by wearing her gameday gear.

On Sunday, Kennedy was officially 6 weeks old.  We're starting to get pretty well adjusted to having this little nugget as a member of the family.  We especially enjoy getting out of the house as a family unit.  She also let us do some much needed house cleaning this morning.
