Another week in the books.
Kennedy hadn't been sleeping very well. We had assumed she was getting another tooth, but on Wednesday, her daycare noticed some fluid oozing out of her left ear. Rachel made an appointment to see the doctor and sure enough, she had a pretty sever ear infection. It was so bad, in fact, that it burst her eardrum and that's why the fluid was leaking out. The doctor also said that she had a general cold. He gave us some meds to help get her back on track, but we had a difficult decision to make.
Tyler and Lynsey had their baby shower on Saturday and we had plans to drive up to Nebraska to celebrate with them. Since Kennedy wasn't feeling well, we were afraid that heading out of town might not help her to fight off her infection. We ended up deciding to have Jason stay back with Kennedy and Rachel booked a flight.
Lynsey, LuAnn, and Carol drove to Omaha on Friday to pick up Rachel from the airport. They then drove to an outdoor shopping center and did a little shopping before heading back to Schuyler. That evening they went in to Columbus and went to a movie. Rachel was all about this as we don't get near as many opportunities to go to movies anymore.
Saturday was the shower and it was a wonderful event. Lynsey received so many nice things and is pretty set for Baby Kime to get here (as long as they wait till they get it all put away). Duane, Danita, Tracy and Braydon made it out to the shower as well so it was nice getting to catch up with them. It would have been their first time meeting Kennedy, but luckily we have another opportunity when they will come down for her birthday celebration. It was a fun but quick trip. Being so spread out, it sure is hard to get all of us in one place at the same time!
Staying home seemed like it was the right decision as Kennedy seemed to recuperate quite well. She is probably back up to 95%, so hopefully we have kicked this nasty ear infection and cold.

Finally Healthy
As a general note, Kennedy continues to get better and better at walking. She's all over the place and getting into everything. We wouldn't be surprised if her first word is "no."
For the first time in what feels like a very long time, Kennedy made it through the entire week at school without getting sent home sick! She was used to being spoiled by everyone so she was a little more needy than normal, but her teachers didn't seem to mind. She has also decided that she won't eat her veggies at school. We are trying to come up with creative ways to incorporate veggies into her diet.
On Thursday, we arrived home to a power outage. Rachel called the hotline and they didn't project getting it back online until seven o'clock so we decided to head out for dinner. After dinner, they had updated to projection to nine o'clock so we also got some frozen yogurt before heading home.
On Sunday, we celebrated Fathers's Day. Rachel made made some biscuits and gravy for everyone. Even Kennedy enjoyed her biscuit. Rachel also surprised Jason with a picture frame. It has three pictures of Kennedy holding letters that spell out Dad. That was just the start of a great day.
Our neighbors had their baby on Tuesday. Rachel wanted to help them out so she made them dinner for Sunday evening. She made some chicken tortilla soup and a lemon cake. They seemed to be very appreciateive.

Anniversary, Wedding and a Stomach Bug
Wow, we've got quite a bit to write home about. We've been pretty busy and missed out on writing a post last Sunday.
Back on Memorial Day, we celebrated our sixth anniversary. We decided to head out to the botanical garden in Grapevine and have a picnic. On our way, we picked up a pizza from one of our favorite places. Once we got there, we attempted to eat our dinner, but Kennedy had different ideas. She was pretty eager to explore the garden so we were on the move after her. While there, we were able to snap a couple of photos before the mosquitos got after Rachel.
The following weekend, we headed to Amarillo to celebrate the marriage of our friends, Brice and Lindsey. We're all pretty busy and have gone our separate ways, so it's always a special treat when we get to spend time with them. We're happy that they're now married and wish them the best in the future together. At the reception, Kennedy sure surprised us. She stayed up way past her bed time because we couldn't hardly keep her off of the dance floor. She always enjoys being around other people, but she really seemed to thrive in the middle of all the action at the reception. She played so hard that she didn't even make it out of the parking lot before falling asleep.
The wedding also got us to thinking about Whitney and Nate's upcoming wedding. We look back at the early days of our marriage with such fond memories. We were still in college and life was more carefree so we can't help but to get excited for Whitney and Nate.
That Sunday, we headed back home for another work week. Everything started out just like normal, but on Tuesday, Rachel got the call that Kennedy was ill and needed to go home. It turns out that several of the kiddos had come down with some stomach crud. On Wednesday, it wasn't clearing up so we called in some backup help. Puma flew in on short notice to give Rachel the opportunity to get some uninterrupted time at the office. As luck would have it, Kennedy's stomach problems cleared up on Thursday. That's OK, they took advantage of opportunity to spend some time together.
With all of this walking, Kennedy has discovered that she can pick something up and carry it more efficiently than when she was crawling. Since then, she's been carrying stuff all around the house with her. On Saturday evening, she was walking around with her purse so we couldn't help but snap a picture of her with it.

On Sunday, we met up with the Jalbert's for brunch to celebrate Matt's birthday. On our way out, Kennedy and Addison held hands as we were walking to the car. We could watch those kiddos all day long.
